CAN YOU AFFORD NOT
TO HAVE AN ATTORNEY?

Are you thinking about mailing in the fine for the traffic citation you recently received? Maybe you already have. Or perhaps you’re going to represent yourself in court. A lot of people do that.

It’s just a traffic ticket, right?

Keep in mind that the street-side “legal advice” the officer may have offered when you were stopped could be bad advice or just plain wrong. Also, the District Attorney, the Judge, the Bailiffs and the Clerks cannot and will not give you legal advice in court.

You should know the answers to these questions before you pay this ticket off ...

* Q: Do you know if there is an alternative to pleading guilty? Answer: Depending on the specific offense and your past driving record, I can probably get your charge reduced – or possibly even dismissed. As a result you could be assessed fewer or NO insurance points – saving you hundreds of dollars in insurance premiums over the next three years.
* Q: What happens if you do not take care of this ticket on or before your court date? Answer: If you ignore this ticket, your license will be suspended by the DMV. It will stay suspended until you take care of this matter.
* Q: What if you have already sent in your payment – can an attorney still help you? Answer: I may still be able to get this charge reduced or dismissed for you - even if you have already paid it off.
* Q: Will the DMV revoke your driving privileges if you plead guilty to this charge?
* Q: Do you know exactly what is on your driving and insurance records now?
* Q: How many points will you be assessed against you if you plead guilty?
* Q: How long will those points stay on your record?
* Q: How much will your insurance premium increase if you just plead guilty to this charge?
* Q: Where do you go on your court date?
* Q: What do you bring with you?
* Q: Who do you talk to when you get there?
* Q: Can they tell you what you should do?
* Q: How long will it take?
* Q: What will it cost?

If you don’t know the answer to any or all of these questions, you are taking a big risk paying off your ticket or representing yourself in court. That’s a risk that could cost you a lot of money. Use your time and your money wisely - hire an experienced traffic attorney to represent you in this matter.

I have worked in Orange and Chatham Counties for one of the most respected District Attorneys in North Carolina and have negotiated or conducted trials in over 12,000 cases for the State and private clients. I can use that experience to help you now.

You may think you can’t afford to hire an attorney - but it’s possible you can’t afford not to hire one. The total amount you will have to pay including attorney’s fees, court costs and fines will depend on the circumstances of your particular case. If you need extra time to pay the costs of this matter, please let me know. I may be able to get your case scheduled on a later date.

Call our office any day, Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for a free consultation on this or any other North Carolina legal matter. My direct line is (919) 237-2111.
